Ashiatsu
is a massage therapy technique that comes from the Japanese word “ashi,” for foot and “atsu” for pressure - meaning Ashiatsu is the practice of using one’s feet, rather than hands, to apply slow, gliding strokes with deep pressure along your muscle fibers, following the entire length of the muscle. The main benefit of Ashiatsu massage is that it allows the therapist to apply more pressure than they would otherwise be able to using just their hands. Another benefit is that Ashiatsu massage can cover a larger surface, accessing an entire muscle group at one time.
What to expect:
Your therapist will use the bars installed above the table to balance and control the amount of body weight applied, which gives varying degrees of pressure. They'll use their heels, arches, and balls of their feet to sink into your muscles with long, gliding strokes. Expect a combination of hands and feet use during your massage so they can fully address your areas of tightness. Your therapist will arrange your limbs and the draping as they need to, so your job is to just relax and communicate how you are feeling during your massage. Ashiatsu can vary in many different pressures so it is a massage that all body types can enjoy.
